Knock Knock,

That's the sound my hand created on many Bolivian doors. This post was created to document my ministry and the experiences associated with it in Sucre, Bolivia.

The experiences 4.12.18

Thursday, April 12 marked the first time I would go out in service in Sucre, Bolivia. I had the opportunity to work out with a need greater brother from Canada, needless to say I was happy that he spoke English. He gave me a presentation, in Spanish, to give to the house holder. Though I was extremely nervous, expecting the worst, the presentation came out well enough for the householder to understand what I was trying to tell him. You may now be wondering whether or not he accepted what I offered. I'm glad to inform you that he did!

What's wonderful about the ministry in Bolivia, is that many, if not all, have a deep respect for the bible. This allows the friends who understand and speak Spanish to have many Bible based discussions with the people. They are able to start Bible studies a lot easier than where I from.

After service we headed to a Dinosaur Exhibit with the brother mentioned before, as well as with some of his studies and people in his hall. Here we were able to see life size replicas of what the Dinosaurs may have looked like! They also had the worlds longest trail of Dinosaur footprints that could be seen from less than one foots distance. The location of the Dinosaur Park, is simply amazing. Due to it being elevated, you can see the topographical view of most of Sucre.

 The experiences 4.13.18

On this day, I was given the opportunity to work out with the def congregation situated in Sucre. We went to the outskirts of town in search of a return visit, unfortunately he wasn't home. We then headed back into the city center to have a study with a def youth. What made him special, said the brother we were working with, is that he wanted to learn new words and how to read!

After service, we went to a museum that focused on the history of Sucre. We learned many new things about the fairly recent history of Sucre and Bolivia as a whole. We learned about a history stained with the blood of native Bolivians and Spanish settlers. We also discovered why Bolivia's capital is La Paz, but the constitutional capital is Sucre. The museum itself had a rich history, providing many uses throughout history.

The experiences 4.14.18

One word can describe this day with complete accuracy, the word is...AMAZING. Yes, this day inspired awe. This day brought us two hours outside of Sucre to Zudanze, a very small farm town. The reason we came here, was to preach to the peoples of that area. I worked this isolated territory with the same brother I worked with on 4.12.18, his name was, [@]Brentyn. Brentyn and I went to visit some of his Bible studies, while others went to do territory and various other things. We were also able to try a dish that is very common to Zudanze, and typical to Bolivia. The dish is called Picante de Pollo, which is basically, chicken in a red sauce, rice and potatoes. This meal was pretty good, though not my favorite. I also order one of their soups, which was much better in my opinion. My meal ended up costing me 15 bolivianos, or $2.18. Not too bad.

After lunch, we headed for the meeting, which is held every other Saturday in Zudanze. Most of the meeting attendance, were visitors from the town. There were only two brothers at this meeting, they split the responsibilities of the Public Talk and Watchtower discussion. My cousin and I had the privilege of commenting at this meeting, even though I think we were both quite nervous. The brothers also allowed me to help out with playing the Kingdom Songs.

The experiences 4.15.18

This was a bitter sweet day. It started with me meeting up to do service with a brother named [&]Marcin, a brother who is from England ;). We went off together in search of his return visits, none of which ended up being home. Though, as many of us know, talking at the door isn't the only way to classify a good day. We ended up spending the morning discussing many subjects and different things. He told me the good things about Bolivia, but also the reality of living there. Though it is nice, it's completely different from home and takes time to adjust. He had lived in various places in South America for various amounts of time. He recommends moving to Bolivia as a base home, and traveling to the surrounding countries and experiencing their beauty.

In the afternoon, me and my cousin met up with Brentyn to do more service. We went on one of his Bible studies who was 10 years old. I was shocked by his understanding and desire to learn more about the Bible. Brentyn told us that he tried to study simpler publications with the child, but found that he wasn't challenging him. He already knew most of the Bible stories found in the children publications. This motivated him to study the Good News brochure with him. And guess what, the child is fully comprehending what he is being taught.

After the Bible study, we went to the service meeting that began at 4 P.M. Here, another sister joined Brentyn, my cousin and me. I ended up working out with the sister in the door to door ministry. The sister I worked with was from northern California, about 3 hours away from where I live. She has been out here for about three months, and enjoyed the time she had spent here. She was able to talk to quite a few people that day, some where willing to chat others weren't.

After we completed our ministry, we headed to Brentyn and Marcin's house[they're roommates]for dinner. The meal we decided to make, would make any iCarly fan's heart rejoice. We made, wait for it, Spaghetti Tacos. That's right, spaghetti + tortillas, what could possibly go wrong. We all enjoyed the association and the idea, but I think we were pretty divided on the taste. Brentyn and I loved them! However, I think the others were disgusted by them. I can see why they didn't love them in all honesty, but I enjoyed them. For dessert, they had crepes with various fillings.

You probably are thinking, why was this day bitter sweet? I will tell you why. Marcin, the brother mentioned throughout, is leaving for a 3 month long trip, without 100% certainty of returning being possible. There are many variables that can stop his plans of returning. So in all likely hood this was our last time hanging out with him. The same cloud was with Brentyn, even though he has no plans of leaving soon. The odds of us reconnecting so far away are very slim, though higher than reconnecting with Marcin. That being said, I think we made the best use of our time together, and made memories that will last a life time.
